2006 10 26 Cabinets, Templates, Appliances

Over the last three days three things have happened. The last of the cabinet boxes were put in place, the "templates" were made for the counter tops, and the appliances arrived. The next two shots are of the counter top templates being made. These are basically patterns. In this case they are being made of long strips of flexible plastic that can be cut and fitted to the exact outline of the counter pieces. This allows the counter cutters to make tops that fit exactly even when the back of an 8 foot counter is 1/16" longer than the front, or an angle is 89.95 degrees and not 90.00 degrees. They put the plastic in place, tack it to the wood counter top, then glue them together, roll them up and take them away.

Here is a photo of the cabinets in the hallway off the kitchen. The bench will get a cushion.

Here are a few shots of the appliances arriving. In this case the range is being put in place. The refrigerator is already in place to the right of the range. The appliance dealer forgot to send us (or maybe even order) the dishwasher, and we needed them all to be here at the same time so the wood panels could all be fitted while the cabinet installer was here. They managed to find one and get it to us later in the day .. good thing.

Here are a few shots of the kitchen with all of the appliances but the dishwasher in place. Starting to look like a kitchen!

Tomorrow the front panels go on, Tuesday the plumber gets the plumbing plumbed. At that point we can use the kitchen although we probably won't use it much until the counter pieces arrive. Some of the lights won't arrive for a couple of weeks. There is going to be a piece of glass behind the sink and another above the range. There will be a couple of open shelves to the right of the sink on the wall, near the door into the dining room.
